Mokotów is the largest district in terms of population and is located on the left bank of Warsaw. The name Mokotów comes from the village of Mokotowo, which was most likely owned by a man named Mokot. In 1916, as a result of the decree of Governor-General Hans Hartwig von Beseler, the Mokotów commune was incorporated into Warsaw in its entirety. During World War II, Mokotów suffered the least destruction compared to other districts of Warsaw.
Today, Varsovians living in this district can enjoy green areas, numerous city parks, such as: Morskie Oko - located between Puławska, Belwederska and Dworkowa Streets; Pole Mokotowskie at Niepodległości Avenue; Dreszera Park, located between Ursynowska, Puławska, Odyńca and Krasickiego Streets; Sielecki Park between Sobieskiego and Chełmska Streets; Arkadia Park, located between Puławska, Żywnego, Piaseczyńska and Idzikowskiego Streets.
The largest natural reservoir in Warsaw is Jeziorko Czerniakowskie, which together with the adjacent area creates a nature reserve. It is a place of rest for many residents of Mokotów and beyond.
There are many villa properties in Mokotów, where embassies of various countries have their headquarters, among others. Such beautiful buildings can be found on Willowa Street, in Aleje Ujazdowskie or on Al. Róż. Other types of buildings include large-panel housing estates, modern housing investments, shopping centers and many office buildings, especially in the so-called Służewiec Przemysłowy.
Mokotów is very well connected with other districts of Warsaw. Metro line M1 - with stations Pole Mokotowskie, Wilanowska, Racławicka, Wierzbno, Służew; The S2 train, as well as numerous bus and tram connections, provide Warsaw residents with efficient travel both within the district and the rest of the city.
Mokotów has a lot to offer its residents. Examples include the Museum of Polish Military Technology in Fort IX Czerniaków on Powsińska Street, the Służewiec Horse Racing Track on Puławska Street, the Warsaw Uprising Mound built from the rubble of post-war Warsaw, Królikarnia, the Xawery Dunikowski Sculpture Park and Museum on Puławska Street, and of course the summer residence of King Stanisław August, the Royal Łazienki Park.
